Who we are
Gavel Record ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website at gavelrecord.com(the "Site"). We publish attorney and law-firm insights derived from public federal court records and related open datasets. This policy describes how we handle information when you visit the Site or submit a request through our forms.
Public data we display
Case lists, docket entries, party names, outcomes where available, and aggregated statistics on the Site are compiled from public sources, including data obtained via CourtListener and other public court records and government filings (including materials that may originate from PACER or court websites). That underlying information is generally a matter of public record. We do not claim ownership of public court data. If you believe a factual error appears in the underlying public record, you should contact the relevant court or data publisher.
Information you provide
If you use Contact Us or similar forms, we may collect name, email address, phone number (if you choose to provide it), the nature of your legal interest, optional message text, and technical metadata such as referring page URL and IP address to protect against abuse and improve the Site. We use this information to respond to your inquiry and to operate our services. Do not submit confidential or privileged information unless you understand it may be processed like any other inquiry.
Newsletter and marketing
If we offer email updates, we collect the address you provide and use it only for that program unless you opt out or we describe a broader use at signup. You can unsubscribe using the link in any marketing email we send.
Cookies and analytics
We may use cookies or similar technologies for essential site operation, security, and aggregate analytics (for example, understanding traffic volumes and popular pages). We do not use cookies to sell your personal information. Third-party infrastructure (hosting, CDN) may process standard server logs.
How we share information
We use service providers (e.g., hosting, email delivery) who process data on our behalf under contractual obligations. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public. We do not sell your personal information as a commodity.
Retention
We retain form submissions and related logs as needed to operate the Site, comply with law, and resolve disputes, then delete or anonymize them when no longer necessary.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no online service is perfectly secure.
Children
The Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Your choices (U.S.)
Depending on your state of residence, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete certain personal information we hold about you, or to opt out of certain processing. To exercise these rights, email privacy@gavelrecord.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising applicable privacy rights.
International visitors
If you access the Site from outside the United States, you consent to processing in the U.S. and other locations where we or our providers operate.
Changes
We may update this policy; the "Last updated" date will change when we do.
